Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) participant, Bronwyn and her children achieved their long-term goal of owning their own home. According to Bronwyn, “It’s been a journey; setting goals and with the FSS support for inspiration and advice, this is a dream come true”. Her journey began as a new public housing resident and student raising her children. Bronwyn enrolled in the FSS Program and worked with her FSS coordinator to set goals of education, employment, financial repair, and homeownership. Soon she was offered a voucher with MHA and continued with the FSS Program. Bronwyn thought FSS could be the ticket to assist her in navigating the multitude of community resources in Missoula. Her long-term goals of completing her master’s in social work and becoming more financially stable kept Bronwyn very focused. Once she obtained her degree and found employment, Bronwyn was able to address her credit and improve her credit score. She completed Homeword’s Getting Ready for Homeownership course and Financial Fitness course, where she learned the ins and outs of purchasing a home and built financial skills. Bronwyn worked with her bank to qualify for a loan to purchase a brand-new townhouse. Bronwyn and her family achieved their homeownership goal. “I have pride of being a homeowner and security that I did not have as a renter”. Bronwyn and her family are thankful for the support and services offered by Human Resource Council, HomeWord, Inc. North Missoula Community Development Corp., and Missoula Housing Authority and The FSS Program.
