Public Housing Streamlined Voluntary Conversion UPDATE

January 9th 2020

Last June, MHA held a meeting discussing the option to go through a Streamlined Voluntary Conversion rather than a RAD (Rental Assistance Demonstration program) conversion of our 178 Public Housing units.  Streamlined Voluntary Conversion is a voluntary program run by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Under SVC, HUD will change the way it provides rental assistance to the property from public housing to a long-term Section 8 assistance contract. The Section 8 program would make it easier for us to access money to repair and improve the property, either now or in the future. MHA’s Board of Commissioners has decided to move forward with Streamlined Voluntary Conversion (SVC). That decision triggers a series of steps, some of which directly involve our Public Housing tenants.  If you currently live in one of our 178 Public Housing units, you were sent the attached notice on January 7, 2020. MHA will be converting all our public housing units to Section 8 around June 1, 2020.  Please take some time to review this notice and be on the lookout for a letter coming soon that will tell you the date and time of your meeting.
