Featured FSS Participant: The Rambo Family

December 10th 2018

Chantel, Michael and their 18 month old son, Timmy were half way to Alabama, fleeing homelessness in Missoula, when they received a phone call from Colin Woodrow, Public Housing Property Manager, stating that they had been approved for a Public Housing apartment in Missoula. They abruptly turned their car around and made their way back home.

“We (had) literally hit rock bottom. We are working on rebuilding our lives now that we have stable housing.” -Chantel Rambo
During their lease up, this family was referred to the Family Self-Sufficiency Program and jumped at the opportunity to create a plan to work toward economic self-sufficiency. They met with the PH FSS Coordinator, Sierra Lowney, and went through the intake process, which included creating an Individual Training and Services Plan with specific economic goals. The good news is, Chantel and Michael both found employment quickly after returning to Missoula. Now that the couple is enrolled in the MHA-FSS program and employed, they have decided that one of their goals is to begin saving right away for future homeownership. Chantel is planning on renewing her CNA license, as a means to increase her wages. Michael is working on obtaining his GED/Hi-SET and his Driver License. The family hopes to find more reliable transportation in the near future. The couple will work on improving their credit, as well as maintaining safe and stable housing. Chantel and Michael hope that their motivation to work toward these goals, along with mentoring and referrals received from the FSS Coordinator, will create the best possible future for their young family.
